Photographer of the Week (3)

Melissa Caragena
Melissa Cartagena is a photographer from Columbia. She is famous for her Docile project in which she portrays hundreds of Columbian women in black and white portraits. She says “Columbian women are beautiful and independent, with stories that make you shudder. And in the midst of that feeling you can personify and bring to light splendid, sensual beings.” The photos are not only of the women but also for the women, she states.
She strives to use the most natural approach to her photos and present the rawest form of them, therefore her photos do not have any kind of edit to alter the images, but only places a frame around them. Her goal is to do right and make those around her happy.
What struck me about her photos is that they are all so deep, you can almost feel how the women in the photos are feeling.
