Harry Callahan
Harry didn't start off wanting to be a photographer, but after meeting Ansel Adams at a workshop in 1941 he decided to dedicate his life to photography. Harry takes straight photographs of the everyday world with personal expressions, often photographing his wife Eleanor and daughter Barbara. Harry is well rounded and has explored with a wide range of cameras as well as both black and white and color photography.

Larry Clark
Larry Clark has a reputation of being one of the most controversial photographer and filmmakers of our day. But Larry says he doesn't do this on purpose. He states, "I don’t try to be controversial, I just try to be honest and tell the truth about life. Coming from the art world, I never think there are things you can’t do or show." I think its really important to show the real parts of life, the embarrassing moments, the sad, intimate, dirty, horrifying, shameful moments that make up who we are. Photography isn't about being pretty, although you can take something "ugly" and make it so. That isn't always the point, and Larry makes it clear that he is just trying to tell the raw, real, truth about his life.

Sarah Maple
The other feminist photographer that is worth recognising is Sarah Maple. She is one of England's most influential artists and has been exhibited internationally. Her exhibition at Kunstihoone broke the museum's record for vision numbers in a single day, first weekend, and overall duration. At 30 years of age she has won 4 awards, released 2 books of her own as well as been featured in 7 others, made 3 documentaries, and been in many solo and selected group exhibitions. She is really making a impression as a feminist artist throughout England. Sarah takes a comedic approach to her pictures, she states, "The aim of my work is to give my audience food for thought. I believe comedy is a great tool to achieve this, which is why I choose to portray my conceptual ideas through a light-hearted and tongue-in-cheek approach". Her photos aren't as forward as Liora in their messages, but they are effective nonetheless.

This first set of images with the princesses show that little girls can grow up to be whatever they want to be. She is especially including jobs where you don't usually see women like as a CEO, a soccer coach, a parliament member, a judge, scientist or surgeon.

The next set of images she has on the "Anti-Rape cloak" in all her photos. She is making fun of those people who say things like 'she was asking for it, look what she was wearing'. I think this is her way of saying 'were those kids asking for it how when they were dressed in their PJS and play clothes? '
This photo is titled "A male artist and a female artist" here I think she's trying to show how the world sees male artists in relation to female artists.
This one I love because this photo screams "fuck sitting like a lady"
What I get out of this one is that a lot of times when people look at women they sexualize them ridiculously and she's trying to show what it feels like to be looked and all they see is breasts.

My next few posts will feature feminist photographers as it is a cause dear to my heart and very prevalent in our society. I feel it is super important to support these women who are being advocates through their artwork.
My first photographer I wanted to feature is Liora. Liora is a feminist because she "can’t live in a world where she is defined, limited, and categorized by genitalia, where women are objectified beyond reason, where rape culture thrives, and where these injustices (and more) are so blatantly ignored and denied by so many people." She states this about her project, ' I wanted to create a body of share-able and instantly understandable work that people could connect with and use to continue to spread the word: “women’s rights are being sabotaged, but we are fighting back.”' She goes on to explain how she had always wanted to take a stand, make a change, and speak out but that she is not good with words. She used art as her means of communicating. "The Feminist Photos" project has been featured on Huffington Post, Cosmopolitan, Upworthy, Marieclaire.it, D-La Republicca, The Feminist Wire, dot429, Unite Women, and MotleyNews.net and well as being translated and featured in 36 other countries around the world.
